August 2, 2021, NY, NY -- Hope in a Box, the nation’s leading early-intervention program focused on building LGBTQ-inclusive classrooms, today announced the appointment of Seth Rosen as its next Executive Director. Seth replaces Hope in a Box founder Joe English in the role; English will continue to serve on the organization's Board of Directors.

“We couldn’t be more excited that Seth will join Hope in a Box as we strive to make LGBTQ inclusive classrooms the norm rather than the exception,” said Howard Pulchin, Hope in A Box's Board Chair. “It’s critical that LGBTQ young people feel safe, included and that they belong in school. And thanks to Joe English’s idea, initiative, and drive, thousands of young people have felt our impact. Seth will build on the remarkable foundation created by Joe to reach even more teachers and students today when there are more obstacles than ever before to ensure students feel they are represented and reflected in their education

“I am honored to carry on Joe's work and lead the organization through its next phase of growth,” said Rosen. “As LGBTQ+ youth continue to face stigma, bullying, and lack of support, our signature program providing LGBTQ+ inclusive literature, curricula, and teacher training is a lifeline for youth in the classroom. It will be a privilege to work with our inspiring educators, learners, and Board of Directors, to ensure that every student feels valued in their community.”

According to English, "Hope in a Box has grown by leaps and bounds since 2019, and I’m thrilled to have someone as thoughtful, creative, passionate, and experienced as Seth lead the organization to new heights over the coming years. I look forward to working with Seth in my new role on the Hope in a Box Board.”

Rosen is an attorney and seasoned nonprofit executive with over 20 years' experience at national and international progressive organizations.

As a senior at Brandeis University, Seth spent a year at GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), working as an intake volunteer. Answering countless questions from members of the LGBTQ community, Rosen saw how a small, dedicated staff tackled enormous problems and helped thousands of people obtain the equality they deserved. The experience was life-changing, opening his eyes to the effectiveness of strategic advocacy and the power of perseverance.

Since then, Rosen has gained considerable expertise in non-profit law and fundraising. He's held leadership positions at major national and international organizations, including Amnesty International USA, the Ms. Foundation for Women, and Lambda Legal. He also served as Managing Director of Development, Communications, and Marketing at Gay Men's Health Crisis, the world's first HIV/AIDS service organization. Most recently, Rosen was the Director of Development at the National LGBT Bar Association.

Seth received his B.A. from Brandeis University, his J.D. from New York Law School, and his M.P.A. from New York University. Seth and his husband reside in New York City with their two children.

Hope in a Box provides public school educators with curated sets of LGBTQ-inclusive literature, distinctive curriculum for these books, and community and training on how to build an LGBTQ-inclusive classroom. Hope in a Box serves 70,000+ students across all 50 states.
